When this happens, your healthcare professional (e.g. GP or nurse or dietitian) may mention malnutrition. Malnutrition is where you aren’t able to get the right nutrients from the food that you eat.1 This can leave you feeling tired, weak and affect your ability to recover from illness or injury2. For children, malnutrition can also have an impact on their growth and development.3,4 For adults, long-term health conditions can also lead to muscles becoming weaker, which can make it harder to recover when we get ill and can also impact the body’s response to treatment and recovery.5-7
If you, your child, or a loved one is living with a long-term illness, your healthcare professional may offer nutritional support. For more information about how nutritional support can help your condition or for more information on the type of support you may be offered, visit one of below
